I am baffled as to why a US citizen would purchase in France though - so many ADs in the US compared to France which literally has just the Salon and probably a never ending list of customers (including VVVVVIPs that fly from all around the world)

That's what I was afraid of...she's probably VIP or VVIP. -Hard to say. She runs a very profitable small biz. She does well enough to get Hermes quota bags and SOs on a regular basis.
She went to the Salon because she was a tourist and wanted to see what it was like. She was not goal-directed in terms of any long-term plan. As she started looking at the catalogue she noticed the ladies Nautilus models and thought, "Oh, those are nice!."
