Fabulous place. Full of contradictions. Amazing old buildings but most sadly decaying. B
Very much like Havana in that respect.
We all know Rio is dangerous but we walked 32k steps around the city yesterday and zero issue. Every beggar was polite, every vendor was friendly and not Carribbean pushy aggressive.

This afternoon we head towards the Amazon for a few days..
