This has to be AD specific. No way I would give a deposit for a watch without a specific delivery and honestly would probably ask for it back were it me and I found out others didn't need to do this. For a datejust, I'd be waiting for them to call me when one came in.
It seems very odd to me that an AD would take your cash for a watch that they have no guarantee of receiving in that specific configuration in a specific period of time.
