I have 5165 and do lock one side then the other. Not sure if clasp system changed. But when I lock the one side I need to press gently until I hear a click and feel that the side is completely locked. When the watch was new to me I would sometimes have similar problem with one side unlocking. Perhaps it's just learning curve for you like it was for me.
Love the watch, its low profile and the fact that it's not recognized by most.
