Great question, for the most part, REITs have more volatility than the S&P 500, at least over the last 3 years. While there are many CEFs (obliviously depending on the asset class, manager, etc) with less volatility than the S&P 500.
I'll post some graphs later that will help.
As for yield, there are tons of both in the 6-9% yield range so common sense would say always take the less volatility investment.
