I don't own a Submariner but have a Seamaster, a Sinn 203 Arktis and other dive style watches. A dive watch is not a dress watch but the idea that any watch is ever a bad choice is unpopular. It's not the best choice so as long as I own others I'll pick something simpler or at least less toolish when in a suit. It's like tennis shoes with a suit in my mind. Yes, they are shoes but not the best choice with a suit.
I don't stick to the only wear pure dress watches with a suit concept and will wear my Milgauss with a suit, but a big bold numbered bezel is not my idea of something that pairs well with a suit just because it's expensive.
