I suppose so as not to clutter and having the gold frame up against the hour markers wouldn't look good. I find the day and month to be "framed" in the dial - see groove in the dial at the right of the day and left of the month indicator.
More importantly, I am excited to read that you are focusing in on the 5205. Should we be expecting something? or do you just hate this reference? haha
