I feel the op's concern. I have felt self conscious about my shiny rolex around certain people, but not guilty for reasons that have been stated many times in this thread.
I actually flipped my ceramic sub because of the stand out bezel and aquired a polar 16570 which is a way under the radar rolex I'm my opinion. So op I think you will be fine with your choice of the explorer ii. I also got a pp 5167 and no one even gives that watch a second look and I feel completely comfortable I'm just about any situation. Go figure.
