Ya I think the beers do that! You have great hearing if you did hear it ticking. My ears are shot after many a year cutting fascia without hearing protection. Where was OSHA back when I was a young lad! The jury man I worked with used to say ok kid get your cigs out and tear off the butts to use for hearing protection when the iron workers used to lock down the steel beams.
Also the fall protection was none existent back then. I remember the first time climbing down the outside of a 6 story parking structure to remove the carriage bolts on the forms. One hand a sledge hammer the other to hold tight. Not tie offs then, climb out then wrap my single lanyard around the strong back. Then lean back on it an hope for the best. I was a scared pup then.
Nowadays they have all kinds of fall protection. Ha the good old days.
