Ticking watches are not something I can hear, although if I hold a Rolex directly to my ear, I can hear a chiming and the same thing happens when my wrist is beneath my pillow and for some reason that chiming is amplified.

I have noticed this as well! I thought for a long time that I was hearing things when I went to sleep but eventually realized it was my watch making the noise coming up through the pillow. To me it sounds like a high pitched whine.
