I have purchased a couple of used Rolexes from a local jeweler / pawn shop. Both watches came with box but papers...both times I have taken them to AD just to verify authenticity and movement.

There is really no way to know 100% in my scenario if the were stolen. It is just comforting to know that by state mandate anyone that sells to pawn shops keeps copy of drivers's license of seller. I say buying from eBay or craigslist is even more da dangarous.
