FRT is both used and misused. It's too soon to say it would help in the OPs case.
Consider this: to catch one robber using FRT, many more citizens' civil rights could be compromised under the 4th amendment. I don't have the right answer but I'm not looking for the government to own my "15 minutes of fame".
