Quite torn on what the best move is here...kind of hoping someone talks me into the 36 honestly lol.

You are right about the 40 not being as well proportioned. Too much empty space on the dial. Get the 36. You will get used to the classic size very quickly. Thankfully, it’s not a concern for me.
