I've read that chlorine and other chemicals in swimming pools and hot tubs can discolor or corrode gold, but my gold wedding band has remained unblemished through years of regular training in swimming pools. I would not take this as proof that it is safe to wear a gold watch in a pool or hot tub, though. A sauna should be fine.
