We were on a hike with a guide in Glacier National Park a few years ago and came across two moose in a lake. The guide informed us that moose can dive up to 18 feet deep to get vegetation and use translucent eye lids to see through while under water.

We have a lot of moose near our home so I found this fascinating. I love moose and think they’re impressive creatures. They’re total assholes but impressive.

Australia is wider than the moon.

Venus is the only planet to spin clockwise.

Allodoxaphobia is the fear of other people's opinions.

Australia once declared a war against Emu, and lost.

For those who don't get it, emu is a large and flightless bird, similar to the ostrich. After World War I, significant number of ex-soldiers took up farming within Western Australia. But back in 1932, their farms faced difficulties by the arrival of about 20,000 emus. The newly migrated emus found that the farmlands were an amazing habitat for them and they began to settle

Between 1788 and 1868 more than 162,000 convicts were transported to Australia. Of these, about 7,000 arrived in 1833 alone. The convicts were transported as punishment for crimes committed in Britain and Ireland. In Australia their lives were hard as they helped build the young colony.

A penal colony is a settlement that is used to house criminals. The British government believed that Australia would be an ideal place to send their convicts because it was so far away from Britain.

An Australian friend tells me the countries troubles are not because they have so many people descended from convicts.

He believes their troubles all come from having so many descendants of wardens.
