Vintage Datejust crown positions
I inherited a vintage Datejust that I believe is non-quickset, and I am trying to figure out what the second crown position is for. When I unscrew the crown and it pops out into the first position, I understand this is for winding the mainspring. And when I pull it all the way out into third position, I can adjust the time accordingly. But what is the middle position (#2) for on a non-quickset. In this position, the second hand continues to move and there is resistance when I turn the crown, but nothing happens. What is this position for? Thanks in advance!
Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. I have searched online and can’t find the answer. Trying to avoid another trip to the jeweller for a silly question. |

It will help a lot if we know what model you have.

Datejust 16013. Early 80s, maybe late 70s.

Should be the detent for quickset date and only changes in one direction. Could be something as simple as a lack of lubrication allowing the parts to move into position. Likely a good clean, lube, and adjustment service will put it back in order.

Thanks for the info. To my surprise and pleasure, it is a Quickset Date. I just had to turn counterclockwise to change the date.
Before I realized this, I had been turning the crown clockwise in position 2 and it met with resistance, similar to winding but perhaps a little more resistance. Could this have damaged the movement? |
