Well that cocked-up.
How important is it for you to be able to easily read the time on your watch.
Discounting members with poor or failing eyesight.
I as because a lot of threads say "The black dial made it difficult to read the time."
Personally, I don't mind gazing at any of my watches until the time becomes apparent!
Regards

Very important to me for a dial not to look busy. This may be why I prefer baton lume markers. That said, I can look at my watch and not even notice the time. It's a common sickness around here.

it's the main function of the watch, anyone who says it isn't important should sell their watch.

I bought a lovely Daytona with the white dial, and had to sell it within weeks because I couldn't easily tell what time it was. That's really the primary function that I expect from my watches.

It's a major factor for me and always has been.
Especially now that i'm getting older with diminished eyesight.

IMO, the legibility looking directly at the watch as well at an angle and in different lighting conditions is crucial to the primary functionality of the watch.

It's quite important to me. My DJ2 has been getting the lion's share of wrist time because it's dial size and large lumed batons are so easy to read under the greatest spectrum of lighting conditions.

I've passed up many watches that I had been quite interested in because I didn't find them as legible as I desired.

Not so, I don't mind enjoying the dial whilst figuring out the time

Top priority for me. If I can't read the time at first glance, I don't want it.

To me it depends on the watch and setting. Sometimes legibility is key to the function, other times a watch can just be.
Example: Some environment may be best suited for an maxi lumed Explorer II while a non luminous Roman dial on the Day-Date can be a beautiful thing to have in another environment.

Exactly

It is very important to me and I have not bought watches and I have sold watches because they were too difficult to read at a glance.

Pretty important.

Before I got my SubC I had an older Datejust 16200. The lume was dead on it so that made it tough in the dark obviously, but even more than that the minute hand was pretty skinny on the older watches, so much so that in brighter light I would mistake it and the second hand sometimes because they would both reflect enough light that it was hard to tell at a quick glance which was which (partly because the minute hand was also faceted in a way that only half of it was usually reflecting the light). This actually happened a lot, I was surprised, and was one of the reasons I wanted to switch to something else. I even found the cyclops a little annoying at times when the hour or minute hand was underneath it, especially at the edges.

I love the legibility of my Sub. There is no mistaking any of the hands and dial is free from obstructions. Plenty of lume and big bold markers make it super easy to know the time from a very quick glance.

Hey Eliot.
By that reasoning, we only need one watch, albeit a nice one.
Could I ask how many watches you have, as I suspect it's not one!

I was really hoping for why it's important, I think two members said why.
I'm into vintage too, so perhaps my mind doesn't care how long it takes to tell the time. I could gaze at a Nautilus 5726 or gloss black dial forever!

It is important to me, which is why I got rid of my white dial 116520.

Super important, which is why the white dial sky-dweller is on my radar now instead of the blue one.

1st, that isn't a logical conclusion from his argument. If you don't wear a watch to tell time, you could wear a bracelet. If you don't need to tell time you don't need a watch. Not one part of that implies you only need one watch. 2nd your logic could be disproven with a counter argument: "Not if you need different time keeping functions: gmt chrono".

Hi. Actually I disagree. For anyone on this site, the main function of a watch is not to tell the time, the main function is how it makes them feel. If one just wants to tell the time - buy a Quartz Casio.
Watch lovers don't buy a watches to tell the time. It's just that it so happens that a watch can tell the time. They buy them because they love the way it looks, feels, gets them noticed, gets complemented on, starts conversations - you get my drift.
As for the comment of "If you don't wear a watch to tell the time, you could wear a bracelet" that's crazy talk. Nobody here buys a watch to tell the time. The chap who has a Coke and a Pepsi, why does he have both? They both tell the same time? He has both because he loves the look of both. Not because he loves the way the Coke tells the time and he also loves the way the Pepsi tells the time.
This post was about time telling, not complications. I didn't make that clear, however by reading between the lines it's apparent that the post was really trying to understand why people buy a watch then flip it because they don't get on with it. Shouldn't buy it, if you don't love it.
By the way, you didn't answer how many watches you have.

I have a "short hands" Explorer. Very legible to tell the time, that's why the hand length never bothered me.

Crisp legibility (black baton DJ II and Tudor Black Bay Black) are important to me, and have passed on less legible models when buying these.
