Icon20 AD offered Sea Dweller 126600

Today, AD called and offered a SS Sea Dweller, ref 126600.
Since mid 2023, I have been searching for SS GMT or Sub date for my son’s 2025 college graduation gift.

Do I take the Sea Dweller or decline and hope that the desired hard to get timepieces become available?

Advice appreciated.

Wait for the one you want obviously.

What are you going to do with a watch you don’t want?

The SD is a large piece. You better know it’s a fit before you drop in on that one. I’d wait.

Decline.
ADs offer Sea Dwellers and Deep Seas to almost everyone.
Besides, it's not something you asked for, which is a steel GMT or Submariner, so decline the Sea Dweller and wait for what you really want. $10,000+ is a lot of money (your money), so make sure you buy what you want and asked for.

How big is your son¡s wrist? Over 6 3/4"? Go for it. Else, pass and wait, unless you want it for yourself. Personally, it's my favourite Rolex.

Welcome to the forum.

Tough call as it’s a beautiful reference, however it is larger and noticeably more heavy than the two you are talking …

Ideally I’d have your son try it on, unless this is a surprise.

Great watch but I'd wait for what you want if there's any hesitation.

I certainly don’t see the sense it spending that kind of money if it isn’t the watch you want. Wait

Sea Dweller 43 is a better looking watch than a Sub, and is less common. If your son has a wrist around 7 inches then consult him he may want the SD43 over a Sub.

Wait it out if you wish, but you might not get the sub or GMT in time for your deadline.
For a decent size wrist, the SD43 is worth considering.

I have a sub, but honestly like the look of the SD better in a lot of ways. A lot of the things I like about my SMP300 are similar with the SD43 (fully graded bezel, touch of red).

How big is your son's wrist? If he is not a watch guy and/or small wrist, I would wait for a Sub which will be less controversial. If he has a decent size wrist and/or likes big watches, would definitely hit the bid on the SD43.

The 126600 is slightly larger than the Submariner or GMT but if your son is of a larger build, it would be a very nice choice. Personally I prefer the Sea Dweller over the Submariner, that little dash of red is nice.

You said you were searching for a Sub or GMT, so why would you accept a watch that is not a Sub or GMT? I would wait for what you want. A Sub should not be that hard to obtain. I'm surprised you have been waiting this long honestly. GMT on the other hand...

Without a doubt, the 126600 wears bigger. I have a reasonably sized wrist and definitely notice the difference to my 40mm models. It may not be for everyone?

Thank you all. I see the value of TRF.
I passed on the 126600.
It wore too big.
