Vick back in the NFL.... what do you think?
I'm really not sure how I feel. What he did to those animals was unspeakable, some would say unforgivable.. when I think of MY dogs.. and... I want to get that thought out of my head.
On the other hand, we ALL make mistakes, GOD knows I have... and for a sincere effort, I DO believe Humans deserve a second chance.... Listening to his conference now.... maybe his attitude has changed... I don't know.... what do you think? |

I think he deserves a second chance. The justice system punished him, he served it, it's over and done in my book.

I think that he should be left out of football. The way he treated the Atlanta fans after a few years was ridiculous. People don't change that much. He may stop the cruelty to animals bit, but he'll still flick off the fans, and say derogatory things about them (at some point).
I just hope he gives most of his earnings to charity. That'll show that he's truly trying to make a difference and not just doing it because the courts told him to.

Don't like the guy, should have had a more severe punishment. However, according to our system of justice, he has paid his debt to society. So, unless he screws up again, let him be.

We live in a society that accepts redemption, if the person has really turned their life around. Generally that means some sort of punishment, being contrite, asking for forgiveness and then moving forward in a positive matter. I do believe in this system. My concern is that dogs are true "innocents" and so I see his crime as pretty severe. So the forgiveness comes hard.

I have mixed feelings. As a dog lover....well you know my feelings. On the other hand, he paid his debt to society and deserves a chance to earn a living. My big thing is that there are guys in the NFL(Leonard Little, Donte Stallworth...) who have killed human beings and have served no time or very little time while Vick was involved with animals got 18 months or so. Just makes no sense.

Ok, I am SICK of these professional athletes doing whatEVER they want.
They sign a code of conduct and IGNORE them. The NFL, MLB, NHL, etc are all at fault for letting them back in IMO. If I was arrested like Vic was, I know sure as ____ I would be fired from my job. IMO, that goes for drug use, DWI, beating spouses, etc.

As a life long Eagle fan, I am thinking that all of those dogs will rest easier if helps the Birds win the Super Bowl. (Honest!)

I do believe in second chance. This is why he is out of prison. But I don't believe he should be playing football again. I think this is just like giving Madoff a second chance and let him back to do what he do best. Scamming people. When he decided to kill those dogs, I really don't think he had a second thoughts, otherwise he wouldn't kill those many dogs. You also have to consider that those dogs can't defend themselve and that's is very cruel. I know that it is not the same as killing defenseless childgren or senior citizen but it's a similar in passion. No I don't have a dog.

He has served his time, look at Ray Lewis, Donte Stallworth (Out for this year & served 24 days), Plaxico Burress who all did crimes against human beings and served much less time, if any. If a person who has served his time is not allowed to try to earn a living, what is the point of our judicial system.

Hell no. But at the same time i have made very bad decisions in my life, some that have affected others poorly when i was younger. I am glad that people gave me a chance to redeem myself and belive he deserves the same. He served his time now let the man on with his life.

The whole drug testing thing is a joke too. A slap on the wrist, maybe a few games suspension, etc. Last I checked, if my work drug tests me and I fail, I'm gone.

No. He is certainly not a role model, and IMO, there are very few atheletes that are. However, I would certainly explain to my child that he broke the law, went to jail for doing so and is now trying to do the right thing by getting a job and putting the past behind him.

AND I'm not looking forward to the PETA types making life hell for the Eagles. We have bigger issues to deal with in this country. And no, I wouldn't buy a "Vick" jersey, because I don't idolize or respect him. I think that's a different issue though. |

I love dogs, too; but Vick has paid a steep price and he deserves a second chance. It remains to be seen whether he has really changed.

Well, I was in the States when Vick was accused, summer '07.
I'm from Italy, but nontheless I'm a football fan (I do have received three or four passess thrown by Jim Plunkett, several years ago, when I used to play in Italy, during a summer camp) and my wife used to admire Vick's style of play, even if she's not a real fan. We use to watch games on Sat TV. When I told her what was up with him, she was horrified, being a true animal lover, with a lovely dog waiting for us back home. Yesterday I asked her what her idea was, about Vick playing again football, and maybe making big money. Her clear point of view is that if he has paid his debt and served in prison, the he deserves a second chance, but should he thouch another animal the way he had done before, well lock him up, and throw away the key! I'll stick with my wife's vision! |

I just read that he'll be coming to my town to play for the Philadelphia Eagles. I'd better hide my beloved Jack Russell. He caused so much suffering to so many dogs due to personal greed, that I don't care that he's served time, he's lower than plankton in my book.

I have never found a great many of the proffesional sportsmen and women to be great roll models, especially the highly paid ones so One corrput individual in a sea of other corrupt individuals is not going to be earth shattering.

I rescue dogs...I have 7 min pins and dachshunds. I rehabilitate those that can be made whole and find them loving homes. The ones that are permanently broken and damaged stay with me permanently.
I rescued a 9 year old female min pin from a shelter about 6 years ago. It took me leather welding gloves, a towel and a muzzle to get her out of her run. She was a fear biter. It took her FOUR years here at my house to let my husband pick her up. She was obviously abused so badly by some man in her past that the only man she half way trusts is my husband and this has been six years..... What does a 15 year old min pin have to do with Vick you might ask? Until you have lived with dogs that have suffered severe abuse, you can't understand how horrific that crime is. I see many of these sports superstars make millions of dollars and they get away with drug use, rape, manslaughter while driving drunk and they serve their time and go back to making millions. If I am ever convicted of a felony, my Nursing and Nurse practitioner licenses will be stripped from me and my career will END! That goes for a lot of the Dentists, Doctors and Lawyers on this forum. No one would give me a break if I committed a felony. So I guess, I feel like Vick really got off pretty easy. I don't really care what he does for the rest of his life, but I surely won't contribute to the sport that employs people like that. Sorry, it breaks my heart that people can be so cruel that they have no compunction against torturing helpless animals........it also makes me sick to my stomach that Vick participated it the torture and death of these animals. He wasn't just the guy running the fighting ring. |

I have mixed feelings on this issue. On one hand he has served his time and should be allowed to work in his profession again. But on the other hand I love animals and what he did is inexcusable conduct for a human being. Remember only humans kill for sport!!!
