Case refinish
Hi all
I don’t post a lot here, enjoy reading the posts though. Just wanted to pass along a great experience I had recently from a nice friend, Michael Young(yes the bracelet magician in HK). This is not meant as a debate about the pros or cons of case refinishing….it’s done son just wanted to share an experience. I have had a 16234 DJ for almost 25 years and it’s been thru just about everything I can throw at it. It’s been polished(both good and bad) and it kept on ticking. Lugs we’re getting thin and it was time…. I decided to take the plunge and have MY service and refinish the case and bring it back as close as possible to original. It’s mine and I’m not selling it, sentimental, so I’m free to do what I want with it. I know many are opposed to polishing, refinishing etc. I agree I can alter the original shape, but this is not a collectors piece. I’m very happy with the results and wanted to post some before and after pix. You wear watches to enjoy them…..at least I do. So I can be done properly by the right person |

Looks good to me I wish I had friends like M.Y he’s got a great reputation. It would be interesting to know what he did to it e.g any case build up?

Myself would never buy something that’s been refinished or polished, but most buyers are fine with used watches. |

Looks like a fantastic job and a new watch. I much prefer that Roman Numeral dial with the lumed hands and hour markers to the current one without.

Yes there are magicians out there that do incredible work nowadays…..so in the hands of the right person, all can be done really good.
Whether it’s detectable or not, no idea. I can’t tell…..no idea what kind of material they use to refinish it. We chatted about it and he told me it was done by laser welding small areas at a time and built up? The job took about 2 1/2 months. Anyone who knows more about this than me may understand what that means for welding. Bracelet, Dials and hands are original to the watch when I bought it new in Grand cayman in early ‘97. So these have been handled with care. So basically I have a 26 year old new watch Thanks for your comments all |

That is so cool…a good watch should be a companion for life, to outlive us and be handed down to the next generation! |

This is incredible work - the lug thickness has been completely restored at the ends.

this is amazing, I am really impressed. I always thought about laser welding as a method to help with dents etc but it is great that it can be used to add thickness to lugs/overpolished watch.

Was it “spare no expense” or reasonable?
This would be a great topic to see if the procedure is something easily attainable. Or not It looks fabulous. Considering this myself. Thanks |
