1969 Speedmaster newbie question(s).
Hello there,
Omega newbie here. I would like to know more information about the 1969 Speedmaster model. I am in the market for a 1969 Speedmaster and would love more information to make sure I buy the right one. All i know is that it is chronometer and a manual watch. Would anyone have a picture (front and back) of this specific model/year? Thank you very much, -L |

Lamone:
The Omega SMP for 1969 would be a "Pre-Moon" model. Should have a 861 Cal movement and a plain case back with the Speedmaster logo on it. It is a chronograph with a manual wind. A good dial/hands should have nice custard colored tritium lumes. A bonus is a bezel and insert without major nicks and gouges. The correct bracelet would be a 1039 stainless steel. Don't be in a hurry; you'll know the right one when you see it; love at first sight!

Fellas,
Thank you very much for all your input. I'm thinking about a newer version like the Omega Apollo watches because of the U.S. historical perspective. After all, it's one of America's proudest moments. |

The '69 Speedmaster is often referred to as a "transitional" model. The early '69's use the same dial's as the earlier 145.012 references (stepped dial, longer dial plots, applied Omega logo), the case back is the traditional "pre-moon"... later '69's use the short dial plot and painted logo dial, and can have the "straight writing" caseback. This makes the '69 one of the more unusual years to chase. Here's a few links worth checking out:
