Icon6 Dropped my Air-King last night.

Dropped the 5501 from waist height onto a hardwood floor last night. No external damage that I can see, and this morning it's still keeping perfect time. Not bad for a 50-year-old watch.

Air King definitely saw some air, huh. Glad to see rolex living up to its reputation as a robust watch.

A beautiful, yet tough, timepiece. Before I had my deceased father's Air-King 5500 serviced, it had a similar dial that had no lower script. But during serviced they replaced it with a dial with Precision etched on it. I didn't mind in the least, as most Air-Kings I have seen had the same dial. But it's interesting to see yours in its pristine state. To me, it's such a classic watch. I've heard it's been discontinued, but I doubt the name is gone for good. I think it will just be updated.

Thanks everyone.

Tim, yes, sorry...these false-alarm thread titles can be annoying/misleading, I've just realised that Hope all's well with you.

Billy...yep, the old 17-jewel movements that they put in Rolex watches destined for the USA in the (I think) 1960s-70s didn't even qualify for a 'Precision' dial. Ironically this one keeps time better than most of my "superlative chronometers".

cheers,

Adam

Might have spoken too soon. A tiny bit of seal is sticking out from under the case back. Not sure if it's from the drop, or from the service it had a few months ago. Only spotted it under the loupe. Anyway, a separate post in the tech forum has been made.

Unlikely from the drop, but poorly installed caseback and seal for sure, glad everything's ok
