Differences and Advantages--Sea Dweller vs. Submariner

Hello everyone,
Just wanted to know is the major differences of the Sea-Dweller model and Submariner model? Is there any advantages or disadvantages? More features with the Sea-Dweller than the Sub?
There is a jewerly store in my area that has a SS Sea-Dweller within the $3400 range. It is a mid 90's model (91 to be exact).

What you guys think?

Oh, the cool thing about it, is that it has hellium gas value on the side. COOOLL!

SD has no cyclops
SD good for 4000ft WR and Sub is 1000ft
SD has thicker crystal and slightly smaller dial
SD has a thicker case
SD has polished sides on the bracelet
SD has Helium escape valve
SD is heavier

I think thats it (I only have a SD and no sub to compare it to)

Oh and that price seems to be high, I bought a BNIB for $4000 USD in 2005, for 3400 I would expect you to get something a little newer.

One more thing, if you are not a professional diver, you won't be able to take advantage of the SD's extras. It comes down to preference.

BTW

I LOVE ME SOME SD

Just about sums it up in a nut shell so to speak Rodger, will add SD a little bit more exclusive, not so many around as the Sub.

I had a 14060M and the SD just feels like the Sub on steriods. I love my SD, never take it off.

I would go with Sub even though I am not wild about cyclops. I now have these great dive watches and I can barely swim even though I have a huge pool. My kids laughed because before jumping in the pool the other day I about panicked because I had my Sub on.My son: " dad I think it can withstand 7 feet".

You guys forgot ONE very important difference.

The SD has FIVE full links on the '6' side, whereas the Sub-date has 4½ links on that same side!!

QUIET, JJ. He said SD vs Sub not lamb vs sheep. This is not part of your field of expertise

If I may add one thing to what has been said. How important is luminosity to you? You mention the vintage on the dweller is circa 1991. That watch should have a tritium dial. Tritium has a usefull life of about 12.5 years after the lume degrades. Is this ok?
I have a dweller, but love the sub--more comfortable to me. But, if I could get a mint tritium dial dweller I'd be all over it!!!!

One thing I wish was different:

The SD has any color face you want, as long as it's black.

With the SD your body can be crushed at 4000 ft, with the Sub at only 1000 ft. How's that for a difference? And this thread was already hijacked, so don't look at me

Thanks all for your input. You guys are wonderfull when it comes to infomation. I did notice that it is alot more heavier than the Sub. And it looks like the AD price is even better. I guess the store thought SD carries the same big price tag as Sub's.

You guys are right, there are some good deals out there. I guess for that price, I could just upgrade to a Sub.

THANKS AGAIN GUYS,
Darrick
