The perfect collection and when is enough, enough.

So I have been a watch fanatic all my life and was finally able to start collecting the watches I truly wanted around 16 years ago. As taste, income and styles have changed I have come to a point where I am very happy with my collection. I truly love Rolex as it is the core of my collection. I do not think there is a brand that holds it value and you can wear daily without worrying about destroying or damaging quite like a Rolex. Rolex's are incredibly durable, everlasting and for the most part hold their value extremely well.

With that being said this is were it gets a little complicated for me as I like diversity and appreciate many brands as shown in my collection. I always wanted a Patek and I think a 5726 on a bracelet would tickle my fancy just perfect while still being obtainable but after seeing a new release from A. Lange & Sohne I am feeling that the last piece I might want is slightly or may I say a lot out of my reach. So my question is, when did you get to the point where your quest for the next watch got outside the realm of what you actually could get.

My collection as of now pictured below and what I would love to have is:

Patek 5726 on Bracelet - $40kish

A. Lange & Sohne DATOGRAPH PERPETUAL TOURBILLON - $320k + estimated lol

I'd like to add that I feel very lucky to have what I have and this is not meant to be an ostentatious post where I feel unlucky or bad that I can not purchase an extremely expensive watch, which they all truly are ;) I really believe that if purchased right this hobby isn't nearly as expensive as some would make it as its money in the bank to some extent but when jumping up to above stated watches it definitely gets risky (that is unless you can afford with out regard to resale value).

Nice collection you got there, Brian. No love for Daytona? Btw, love that Slate dial DJ on the upper left there.

I had a Daytona and it did not sing to me. It might be that it was a white face SS and I realized after acquiring a white face Explorer II I did not gell well with white faced watches.

The hustle never ends.

It was nice seeing the Cartier in there. Your taste seems very sports oriented. The Cartier gives it a little flair.

I think you have a great collection. But as most of us think, "we can always use one more"

Beautiful collection. I am sure that your taste will continue to change with time and hence, there will never be a permanent collection. Do enjoy what you have and the fact that we are already able to enjoy what we do is already a blessing. Wear them all in the best of health...

Thank you and as my taste change to the ALS it gets outside the realm of possibility. Actually not sure what the ALS would be classified as?

Nice collection! Love the RG AP. I started with a $6500 Panerai and 8 years later bought a Patek over 50K. This is a sickness we all have and there is no cure. I remember telling my wife I would never spend over 10K on a watch LOL!

Congrats on your collection! Nice diversity. PP or a Lange will be a good next addition. I've always been at the point where my next major target watch is out of the realm of what I can get. But I keep chipping away at it one watch at a time enjoying each step of the journey.

You may consider the datograph up/down. It is more affordable.

Ive thought the same many times. When is enough enough. two years ago I looked up and I owned 6 Rolexs and thought finally, "what the hell am I doing"? Over the next year I sold 3 (was tough) to buy a sports car, etc. I now sit at 2 (one dressy for work and the BLNR for everything else). That being said, you have a beautiful collection! The DJII slate you have is my dress watch. Id stick with what you have....

Im only going to add if Im all out in love. Ive done so much buying and selling the last 5 years and have wasted way more money than I ever want to add up. One of the guys here once wrote about having two (one dressy and one everyday) and calling it a day. Im trying to go with that and see what happens......but Basel is around the corner

I've alway taken my time purchasing and have only sold a few for a profit or close to even if I did not gel. I've never been a flipper and retain a positive current day value to my collection.
