Icon14 Anyone watching the 73rd Monaco Grand Prix this Sunday

Beautiful day for racing at Monte Carlo today for the 73rd Monaco Grand Prix. Rolex signs everywhere. Tag Heuer has a big presence as well. Very exciting to watch. Catch it if you can. At Lap 47 of 78 now. Cheers!

Didn't know about the F1 thread. Oddly no mention of the Monaco Grand Prix there yet. Congrats to Charles Leclerc on his win! A very exciting race to watch. Cheers

F1 has become boring, few comment on the thread there. imho F1's perceived politics and financial conceit don't help matters. But to be fair, Liberty Media does produce very entertaining F1 Games racing events / videos and video games.

Really pleased that Charles won, but after lap 1, not very interesting to watch. Even Max said he was bored! Would be good to see some changes to Monaco as the race can be dull…

I’m going to be at Ferrari in Maranello tomorrow and very excited to see what it’s like the day after such a tremendous win by Charles!

Well deserved win for LEC but this was probably the most boring race in the history of Monaco.

I'm a big F1 fan but Monaco is an absolute snooze fest. No passing and this race today didn't even have any pit strategy. Russell was out there doing lap times most grandmas could do just to save his tires. Just awful. Happy for LeClerc but they need to change Monaco.

Apart from the big stuff up at the beginning I must have missed the exciting part of the race.

I ran it forward at x60 on Foxtel and didn't see a change in the places for 60+ laps.

Good win for Ferrari and a nice second place for Oscar.

But so boring......

So happy for Leclerc. He just seems like such a generally good guy and really deserved to brake the curse. It was nice seeing Ferrari dominate Monaco, almost reminds me of the old days back when I first started to love F1 in the Mid 90s.

Except not the cars are too big, and a lot of it is over regulated to the point they almost are encouraged not to race on a track like Monaco.

They desperately need to shrink the car sizes down. I’ll always love the Monaco GP on principle, but it has become worthless as a racing spectacle.

Racing may become a bit ire exciting too if cars are shrunk down just due to car dynamics

It’s always great to see someone else win.
Although as a sport having one team and driver dominate so much makes it boring

I would never go to this race..ever. If I was given an all expense paid trip to Monaco, maybe I would think about it. Always boring. At least my team won anyways.

You would more be going for the history, pageantry, and partying.

I do hope races like this puts pressure on F1 to downsize the cars to the 80s/90s era

It would be interesting to see how all the drivers faired if they did an exhibition with equal cars there with a late 70s / early 80s chassis, turbo, and manual shifting. Something like the concept of the old IROC.

Youre not the only one.

Actually it wasnt just Abu Dhabi, if you look at Saudi, the Spa fiasco, Brazil, Italy, while F1 that year had some great racing there was way too much vindictivness, dodgy stewarding etc etc.

Ive been a fan of f1 and all forms of motorsport since the late 80s, have seen numerous controversies including Prost vs Senna, Schumacher crashing into people, mclaren spygate, ferrari dodgy wings and engines but after f1 2021 ive only watched a few races live and just tend to turn it on at lights out. If you cant trust the sport to run a fair competition and then put a non disclosure agreement on the parties involved so die hard fans cant find out what actually happened then its not a sport i want to spend time watching.

Im not necessarily a hamilton fan, but im a fan of the sport and f1 as a sport has been tarnished massively over the last couple of years.

Luckily theres tonnes of other motorsport out there from club level to le mans and historic racing inbetween so plenty to keep me entertained!

I want to go soon on the Silversea cruise which stops in during the race.

Is it the most exciting race? No.

Is qualifying maybe the most exciting qualifier? Yes!

The area looks awesome and I want to go to the casino.

The main problem with Monaco is that there is simply no race there, as the streets are not suitable for it. If a winner were announced in the fifth lap, nothing would change, only costs would be saved. Perhaps it would be better to make a showtime out of the whole weekend, for example, all three days would only have qualifications, but the first ten places would get points.

Maybe they should run a total of twenty laps, but with a mandatory two pit stops and a different tire compound each time. It could even shake up the pilots and the teams.

Only reason to go to modern F1 Games really. The racing is predictable and brief considering 3 to 5 days of your life. Buy the merch, watch the videos, support the sponsors. Liberty Media is doing great at monetizing F1. They did blow it in Vegas, should have kept the guests buying instead of rudely throwing them out. Overall, love the F1 Games for the pageantry and partying.

The first 1600 yards was exciting but after that, it was a exercise in tire management.

Lewis robbed Lewis. I’ve rewatched that restart a dozen times and I still don’t understand what he was doing.

The main issue is the cars have grown way too big. They have allowed them to outgrow (literally) the track.

There is a strong need to reduce both size and weight which would improve the racing as well as overtaking .

I've said it before and I'll say it again.
They should rotate all the drivers through all the cars.
It would be a lot more fun than the boring repetitious show that F1 currently is.

I don't think that would be a good idea.

So, for example, do you really think it would be a good idea to put a SAR in an RBR or a MAG in a Merc? But to be honest, I don't think VER can do "magic" in a Williams either. In addition, I don't think that the drivers could even use the cars of their direct competitors at all, since even the number and placement of the buttons on the steering wheels are not the same. This would only lead to huge accidents or suffering and torment.

And last but not least, who would pay for the damages or which top pilot would be left there if he had to race an underdog car?
