Sunday daylight London watch dealer robbery
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...n-robbing.html
3 PM on a Sunday (26 May 2024), two men entered a watch dealership in London, assaulted (without weapons) the staff, threw watches into a rucksack, then ran off. Seems not safe to wear watches in London or anywhere in Europe outside Switzerland. |

I was sent the full video earlier today. The dealer in question is ‘24/7 Kettles’. Allegedly £2.2 worth of watches stolen.
Where were other staff/security?

I’m glad the man wasn’t physically hurt although I’m sure he’s traumatized.

I’m going to be in London and the UK (all over) for a few weeks in July. I was planning on bringing at least two pieces. My new VCA piece and then some kind of beater, maybe my 20+ year old Seamaster.
I figure I’ll be ok with the Seamaster? |

Just be careful in central London and use common sense and you’ll be fine. As for the rest of the uk you really shouldn’t have a problem. If you feel safe wearing them at home then it should be no different on your travels just use a little discretion

Should be able to get them quick enough as no attempt to hide faces.
The fact though that they didn’t use weapons should ensure v light sentences / maybe even community service if caught as not sure this will be high priority As others have said / pays to be careful wherever you are. |

Wouldn’t the proper assessment of this actually be “it seems not safe to have a watch dealership in London” rather than “it seems not safe to wear watches in London” as noted? |

Yeah I’m not sure how hot it is going to be. Last time I was in England at this time of year I was in Brighton and when it wasn’t raining it was fairly warm, so no long sleeves. I guess it’s not the end of the world to leave behind if it’s t shirt weather.

I see you are from London. Is the crime level the same as it’s always been? I know the media sometimes exaggerates things. I’ve never felt unsafe visiting but it’s been a few years. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

This has taken an incredibly sad sad tragic turn. The young chap who was minding the store at the time (his name was Oliver, he was in his early 20s) took his own life yesterday. Makes me sick to the pit of my stomach. I hope our often inept police catch these criminals fast.
RIP Oliver. |

I really believe it’s not much different. To put it into perspective, my father got followed out of Central London by robbers on a motorbike who went at him with a knife in 1995! Lost watch and jewellery but unharmed.

This is beyond awful. Until one has been the victim of crime, one cannot truly understand the impact, even if you are fortunate enough to be left with no serious physical injuries.
RIP Oliver.

I have been in watch dealers like this and there is no security, just a locked door but anyone can make an appointment and enter. Usually they only bring out the watches you want to see but with some force they could get anyone to open any safe. |

Yeah, living in medieval Europe wasn’t exactly a cup of tea. Very dangerous. More dangerous then than now. That said, we could do a lot better. There should be zero tolerance for this behavior. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

As I've mentioned before. This is organized crime. Not a punk on the street. Arrest him and others will take his place. Has nothing to do with the 'tough on crime" crowd.
Until police agencies dry up the demand for watches in whatever countries they're being shipped to, it will continue. Same as stolen cars being shipped off to where ever. We're wandering around with multi thousands of dollars strapped to our wrists. WE have to adjust our behavior UNTIL the demand for these things have been dried up. Bitch all we want, but these crimes are highly organized with the product out of the country in days.
