Help me pick a beater watch

Hi Guys,
I've been searching around trying to find a nice beater watch to give my Sub a break from rougher activities. I have my eye on the new Tag Aquaracer 500m in rubber. Has anyone had experience with it? I am also opening it up to you guys for other suggestions. I don't want to spend more than $1500 and want it on a rubber strap, preferably a strap that meets the case without a gap like most straight end bands. I have no problem buying used condition either. Here are pics of the Tag I'm looking at.

Trust me when I say this . . . . the BEST beater IMO is hands down the Seiko Monster !!!!

I know there is MANY Monster fans out there. For the money (most can be had for $200-250 brand new) they cannot be beat. Just do a quick search here on the boards, and you will find many happy owners (myself included).

I wear my monster every now and then when I want to give my Omegas a rest. Or, if I'm doing a work project where I wouldn't want to bang around my nicer watches. Believe it or not, my black monster is more accurate then both my Planet Ocean, and SMP lol

So yes, my vote goes for a Seiko Monster (black or orange).

For under $1500 you might be able to find a pre-owned Omega PO with a rubber or a Seamaster with a bracelet, then you can buy a rubber Omega strap.

Oh, it would help if I also read how much you were willing to spend on a "beater" as well :) :)

For that price point, I would get an Omega Seamaster as well.
When I think of "beater" I usually think of a sub $500 watch.

To me a beater is under a $100, preferably under $50, so if you lose or ruin it it is no big deal. Iron-man's or G-Shocks are perfect IMO.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I shouldn't have used the term "beater". I am looking for a more rugged watch to do more active activities with. Nothing extreme that would thrash the watch but I want something comfortable on a rubber strap.

As popular as the Seiko Monsters seem to be, I just not a huge fan. I've also had a PO in the past but worry about scratching the AR coating. Never looked into these style watches much so I am turning to you all to broaden my horizons. Keep em coming. Thanks!

After taking your advise on some of the Seiko's, I am liking the Divers 200m. Question though, why are the divers with square indices more expensive than the ones with the round? Here are pics of why I currently have my eye on.

Excellent choice!

Well actually these 2 watches, are identical except for the dial and second hand. (plus the SKX173 has an extra lume square at the date window)

I guess we could say that the SKX173 has more of a retro look to it, compared to the 007.

You should be able to find the SKX173 for around $200-250 and the SKX007 would be slightly under that level. (there is also the J model, which is produced in Japan, and this one will be a bit more expensive (around $50). So if you don't care that the watch has been produced in Singapore/Malaysia (it's the exact same watch anyway), you can save a few $ on this.

Cheers,
Joe
