SS/Blue Ceramic Submariner
Right now, there's a white gold blue sub. I'm guessing Rolex won't release a SS/blue one, because that would cut into the market for the WG one. Right now it's not possible to do this with real Rolex parts because the blue dial and bezel have gold hour markers and numbers. You COULD do it but it would look a little strange to have YG accents on a SS watch.
Anyway, I wonder how many people will buy the new ceramic SS sub when it comes out, and replace the dial and bezel with the blue ones from the Smurfmariner. You could even go really nuts, and have a blue dial and black bezel, or a black dial and blue bezel. Would you make an SS blue sub? People seem hesitant to put the green bezel on a regular sub, but then again the prices aren't that much different between the two. |

I think Rolex is one step ahead of you on this one and won't allow this to happen. I believe that the dimensions of their new SS Sub will be totally different and will make the two parts totally incompatible with each other.
They learned this with the old GMT II. Owner's would buy one of the 3 versions (Pepsi, Coke, black dial) and then just purchase the extra bezels on the side from an AD with a parts account and just swap the bezels out from time to time for a different look. Instead of seeing sales on someone buying 3 different models because of the bezel colours, Rolex saw sales of only one model and 2 extra dials which I hear cost as little as $100 before the watch was discontinued. There's already been talk here as to whether or not the DSSD bracelet with glidelock can be put on an old Sub or SD4000. Rolex knew better and made the dimensions totally incompatible between models. |

i don't think rolex would 'cheapen' the white gold one by allowing people to easily 'copycat' the look with a stainless model. is about perception and exclusivity.

I think the whitegold sub in blue colour , has the same dimensions of the SS one, talking about dial and bezel, so you just gave me an idea....

I don't think they'd actually go as far as to change dimensions from WG or YG to SS versions of the same model. Seems like overkill, but just a guess.
Any form of ceramic bezel swapping would require a watchmaker and plenty of hard cash. You can't just pop those inserts out and reinstall them, and that goes for the new bezel, too. There are diagrams here on TRF that show how complicated the new ones are (GMT II-c's, primarily), a search will locate them for you pretty quickly. Bracelet compatibility is an entirely different matter. That would be watch model to watch model, and Rolex have never really done it that way, even though some bracelets will swap.

Well, if Rolex does come out with a SS Sub in blue I'm sure it would be an excellent seller!!!

If you really wanted to go crazy, you could polish the center links of the bracelet (assuming they're brushed to start with), then it'd be pretty hard to tell the difference.

I think a blue SS Sub would be a good idea on the ground that you may have an extra option for a dial.
By the way welcome Laura!!! Nice to have a Mediterranean lady join TRF!! |

never thought about it like that..but knowing rolex, they're gonna complicate matter..and make it difficult....same reason to why we cant interchange the strap and bracelet on a daytona as easily....or at all??? i'm curious for the new sub.....

I've been waiting to pull the trigger on the SD, largely because of its bracelet. Anyone have any idea on this. Welcome Laura. What part of Italy? I've spent a little time there, Pescara, montesilvano area. Tempus Fugit, Trainer |

I would certainly buy one if the SS version comes out with brushed bracelet.
