new Rolex YM ll yellow Gold

My wife just gave me a new Rolex for our 40th anniversary. I've had my eye on this watch for two years but never pulled the trigger.
I'm seeing a lot of folks who either hate or love the piece. 'Personally, I think Rolex time pieces are all pretty much amazing. I can't see hating the watch when I look at all the craftsmanship that went into this piece.
Secondly, I don't understand why Rolex discontinued the YM. I believe this to be a collector's piece down the road. Any comments?
BTW new to this forum.

Congrats not sure why they discontinued logic would tell me it wasn't selling as many pieces as they'd have liked but it's a great watch nonetheless!

Not a real “popular/sought after” piece but who cares. The wearer has the only opinion that counts. Collectors item? Depends on who’s collecting…. Enjoy your watch

Congrats on the watch and the anniversary. And kuddos to your wife. You are a lucky man.

As for the 'hate,' I wouldn't put much stock in that. There's boatloads of 'hate' here for just about any model. Just open up a (seemingly) weekly Daytona hate thread. You know, the most popular and coveted steel sports watch in the world?

Collector's item? Maybe, but I wouldn't count on it. If I read your post correctly and this is your 40th anniversary, that puts you somewhere around 60? My bet would be you won't be around if and when that happens. So...just enjoy- and cherish- that beauty...along with your amazing wife, of course.

I think I saw one here (or it might have been FB) yesterday for mid-30's?

Would be quite the addition for your stable, my brother.
