I'm going to Hawaii again with my family in a couple of weeks and I originally thought that I'd bring a new dive watch with me since dive watches mixed well with the pool and beach theoretically.

I'm PADI certified but with my family it's hard to dive by myself so I'd most likely only see myself in the pool and shallow beach water. In other words the 100m WR of GMT 2 is more than enough for what I need and the added functionality of dual time is very useful for the time difference of Hawaii with the mainland.

In other words, I can't think of one reason to wear a dive watch (300m) with me when I already have a GMT 2 when I'm vacationing. Well I guess the other reason would be that my dive watch is ceramic whereas my GMT is rose gold so less conspicuous to wear the dive watch.

I guess it's a rhetorical dilemma but I'm interested in what others have to say since many of you have a bigger collection than I do.

I'd wear the sub since it isn't PM, personally. If it was SS, I'd have worn the GMT.

I just took my BLNR on a rough and tumble adventure - rapids, mountain climbing, and more. A great bonding experience.

Yeah I take my watches even the PM ones anywhere because watches are meant to be worn.

Great photos. I've never brought more than one watch with me going anywhere as the extra logistics is too much work mentally.

The joy of having multiple watches is to be able to match them to the activity or occasion.

If you are flying, how long does it take to set to local time before you even get off the airplane?

Hawaii and its association with beach and ocean screams Sub. However, there is likely no wrong choice between the two.

DSSD would be so cool but my wrist can't handle it. AP Diver is actually my favorite AP lookwise.

Even if you dived, the GMT would hold up much better than you underwater. The majority of dives in Hawaii are well above 20m with only some at or close to 30m.

I personally can’t think of a reason to get a Submariner at this point but I’m the type who will use whatever is on hand to get a job done.

First world problems are a toughie.

Hawaii is 3 hours difference from CA so that only takes about (x+3 carry the 2 =) a minute and half to figure out in your head the time at home.

Most of the dives in Hawaii are 40 ft or less so my 4000ft Seadweller may be able to handle it.

Hotel safes are useless so only one watch and a G-Shock for me.

Have fun in Paradise.

I honestly can’t think of when a dive watch would be useful. Every time I dive I wear a suunto dive computer, makes a dive watch pretty useless.

100% this. My Suunto dive computer has undoubtedly saved me from the bends on more than one occasion, I would never dive without one.

I do a lot of diving and used to do it for a living. A backup timer is always useful though its not necessary for recreational diving. Im still old school enough to have a rough plan of tables when I'm diving just in case. My GMT has held up like a champ up to 40m.

Also, love my Garmin descent for the actual diving. highly recommended if you're into that sort of thing.

Just upgraded to the Garmin descent mkii. Its just as conservative as a Suunto. Great watch! Now if I can just get my wife to stop responding to texts underwater…

Submariner for me. If I was vacationing in Hawaii I wouldn't care what time it was elsewhere. Business trip to Hawaii, maybe a different story.
