Porsche just another BMW Audi Mercedes Volvo, now.
Simply far too common to be special?
Yes or No? |

they are expensive. a base 911 with no option is like $120k with tax.
i dont think bmw or audi are on par with what porsche offers. the closest thing is the r8/10 (which is now dead). a z4, rs6 coupe or rstt is not the same. volvo is in different space. bmw has made a lot of front ends ugly. i am not sure what they are thinking tbh but it is gross. the 4 series is horrible. no porsche owner will agree with you though. they have a cult following.

Not talking halo models. A Macan is like $50k and a base Panamera is $90k Cayman $75k X5 Q7 XC90 loaded up money. 550i E63 S6 Lease about the same too. |

A competent driver should be able to lap in a cayman/boxster faster than an RS6. Zero question. I have raced for many years and instruct with various track day orgs and the fact is about 90% of track day goers cannot give the car anywhere close to 100%. A cayman/boxster or any car with that much less HP than yours needs to use what it has to it’s advantage to put a lap together. Most cannot do that. Overall as a former bmw owner and now Porsche owner, I disagree that Porsche is not better than all of the others noted. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

P car engineering is a step above. I do not have your experience or expertise. But I have a lot of hours on the road and a good amount on the track. I have driven a lot of different cars. And I’ve driven every type of exotic/Supercar there is. I’d choose a cayman or 911 every time. Imho, Porsche just makes a better car. All around. And given that I have an R8 right now, which I also love, I’d still take the 911 if I had to choose.

A 911 Turbo and GT3 are still special cars. The rest are fine. This is a very subjective personal opinion. Every model has its trade offs but if you want some more practicality, an RS5 and even an R8 is a solid daily driver all year and the RS models are under the radar like a Porsche just can’t (and should not) be. |

911s tend to be super reliable and although parts are expensive, things seldom break. I have heard the opposite from Audi owners. In fact last weekend I saw a friend driving an R5. I asked what happened to his RS3. It needed a $7k transmission job and he traded it in for the quote he had just received on it minus the $7k. I guess he liked it enough to ante up for another Audi.

The Genesis GV80 is very nice as well. Last I test drove these SUV’s (2021) the X7 stood out noticeably above The Mercedes GLS, Audi Q7 (and 8), Genesis (this was close), Lincoln (but nicer than I expected).
Didn’t drive Porsche, was looking for a larger SUV than the Cayenne. |

They all compete now. Porsche is successful. But lost its ‘specialness’ in my opinion.

911s are still special imo as they're in a much different price and income range
macans are a dime a dozen and not any different from whatever else you see 10 times a day |

Contrary to perception, I care much about the working man and woman who picks themself up and makes something of themself. My money now makes my money. I am a lucky one. But don’t kid yourself, he comes to my home, I don’t go to his. Never would.

Even a Cayenne if you put anything decent on it well over $100k.
Overall though, yeah. If you want special then get a 993 or something. Too many poors with Porsches now. |

They're very common over here, the Cayenne and Macan are almost as common as a regular 5 series wagon, V90 or E klasse. I'm not complaining though, because the rest is either driving a Tesla or a very small ecobox.

I was in a Cayenne diesel Uber a few years back. A business partner sold his Carrera GT when I told him out of protest.

I don’t care how common or rare a car is. It’s the driving experience that makes it special.
I had a 993 911 back in the day and an E46 M3 - not sure I’ll ever drive anything as special as those two again with the way modern cars are going. Only sold them as the repair bills were getting silly to keep them going. I can’t believe you brought Volvo into this! |

Porsche... Powned by the VW Group. Kinda like Richemont, but for cars.

So true, and even moreso as all of these companies continue EV development. The Audi eTron GT and the Porsche Taycan are the same car (both Volkswagen J1 EV platform) at different price points. Simply, people will pay more for the name even though the car is the same. The toothpaste is out of the tube now...no going back.

Porsche just another BMW Audi Mercedes Volvo, now.
Underneath, they use common bases and parts. Interesting video on the Urus

Porsche and Lexus make the best cars imho. I disagree and would take a 911 over anything from BMW or Mercedes.

No doubt Porsche are great cars, however a little too common and "new money" for me.

Love my Alfa Romeo Stelvio, you don’t see loads of them on the road in the UK and it gets a lot of complimentary comments from people when I am at the Filling Station or in Car Parks etc. I’ve been driving Alfas for 35 years and love them.
