If another site I just found is correct (tracking historical exchange rates), then in 2001 the CAD was 0.65 USD (on average, over the year), so the 30,410CAD cost of the Day-Date 118209 would be around $19,766 US. That seems about right to me. Guessing someone here has an actual American price-list from the era.
It depends quite a bit on the configuration and condition (and for some people whether box and papers are included), but in 2022 the watches generally seem to be obtainable for the same amount---from around 19-22k US. So they haven't appreciated---if you consider that $20k in 2001 is worth about 34k in 2022, you could say they've fared poorly as "investments." |
