For break-in, I use the old rubber band method... The inner leather gets a saddle soap massage in case any old spores are in the leather and then a very light dressing of preservative to protect from perspiration. After that, it's buckled and rubber bound to completely dry for a couple of days. Voilą - instant (or nearly so) break-in...
