Rolex Explorer Review

Yesterday, on another respected and apparently professional forum, I read a detailed review of the 'Explorer' movement and case.

I am surprised at the findings of his analysis of the movement, particularly his harsh description of what I will call the 'fit and finish' of movement parts and apparently careless assembly of some of the parts.

As I recall, the reviewer refers to the movement as one of the worst he has ever seen characterizing it as not as good as some cheap movements and amazing that it keeps such good time, perhaps costing as little as $200 to manufacture (my paraphrase).

This leaves me to ponder whether his review suggests that the particular movement he dissected is exceptional to Rolex movements, or typical.

Would others who open Rolex cases and examine movements care to offer an opinion?

I think I know the review you're talking about. I think that's a special case and highly controversial.

I wouldn't give it much weight. As the reviewer said, the watch still kept good time. You can always take it to your Service Center in case you want your watch regulated anyway.

That review is controversial. I have corresponded with Mr. Odets and found him to be polite and intelligent. It would be good for a qualified expert to do a similar review on a more recent Explorer to either dispute his findings or confirm them.
