Just buy what you like. For my personal taste, the white/panda dial has more contrast and is more dramatic. It’s also very legible for my eyes. In the end, who cares what other people like??

Both gorgeous, but I actually like the black dial more.

I went for the black dial and my AD agreed with me. Classic look.

They both look great. I want the white. I'm sure a big reason is that, I'm guessing, a lot of people who want a daytona already have a black dial sub, or GMT, or both, and want something different.
But I also just think the white dial looks better. |

chose black with my AD, but I think the more popular appeal with white is that it's ultimately more flashy/showy, allowing for easier recognition of a ceramic daytona on one's wrist.

IMO white looks better in pictures. Black looks better in person. Same for the 5-digit Explorer II

I have had both, sold them and replaced them with a RG version and eventually sold that one. Just picked up a new black dial as my final keeper. From the day that they were first released I thought that the black looks better.

White looks better in pictures and ads - black is better in person.
I wanted the white so bad, but then got the black once in person - this was at retail as well. |

Agree with this. Panda for photos, black dial for real life; I went with the black dial.

Typically, I see a black dial on a watch enthusiast's wrist, and a white dial on a social media lover's wrist (the loudest person at the bar/party who NEED to tell you how great and lucky they are to have the white dial). Just my experience.

As someone that has the white dial, I actually prefer the black in person. I think it ‘s classy and timeless and is perfect in any situation.

When I tried them both on, I felt the black was quite like my Sub so I went for the white as it is more unique.

White or black, nobody is wrong with whichever one they prefer. Both look great, but the white is definitely my preference between the two. Sure, as Tensai mentioned, I do believe that the white dial is loved more because of the hype, but not in my case. I've always loved the lighter dials on Daytonas....even back to the vintage models.
My favorite out of the current models, is the steel dial "panda" on the 116519. If Rolex offered that dial on a 116500, that would be my pick in a heartbeat! |

The black 500 doesn't have the contrast for me to be able to read it. I was offered it first and passed, bought the white 500 I can read because of the contrast.

I don’t understand how a white lume marker on white face provides more contrast than a white lime marker on a black face lol. You can tell yourselves that but it’s fine to just prefer the white one …
The thing holding me back from a white face SMP 300 is lack of contrast with markers ironically enough. |

I have black previous model and white new model. Best of both worlds in my mind! But that’s like being a hero in your own mind. It’s all personal preference.

Black looks best in 116500 but white is more attention grabbing. Most people want to flex a little.

I was so fortunate to be offered the white dial version in spring 2016. Had the black shown up, I would have snapped it up in a heartbeat!! Both are excellent. The black bezels are amazing IMO...
