How do you go about convincing yourself...

...when you want to buy a new watch??

I guess most of us would ponder over the following stages...

1. Do I have the funds? And if so, how much will I be left with for other essentials?
2. How will the new watch fit in with the rest of my collection? Am I duplicating any of my other movements, or will this be totally different?
3. What colour dial should I go in for this time? (For e.g.) I already have a blue dial and a grey dial as well as a black dial...so should I go in for white....hmmm....perhaps black again with a different bezel look....hmmm....or maybe champagne in a TT model....hmmm.....decisions, decisions....
4. How about the bracelet? I have too many Oysters....perhaps a new style Jubilee this time.
5. And, finally, how do I convince the wifey? Perhaps get her something nice for her birthday? Perhaps butter her up first, nice and smooth, before taking the plunge?

Hmmm.....decisions, decisionns....how the hell do YOU fellas go about this heinous task?

Well, I don’t have to convince myself. I only need to make a choice between watches. I have the funds, for ONE watch. My wife supports me 100%, I’ll explain this later. It is when I look at the outlay of cash that the doubts start to creep in. For that amount we could have a nice extra vacation in Portugal. Or that widescreen TFT TV and that new and nifty digital videocam. Or, or, or…. But it would be very difficult to convince my spouse that I am in need for a second Rolex. After all, what is the need for yet another ‘best watch in the world?’. No guys, I’m not a millionaire, have a 16 year old in high school and like to eat out with my family, buy the odd bottle of single malt and vintage Port and try to provide for my wife and daughter the best I can. That’s it.

Take care,

Frans.

I don't take the time to convince myself, if I think about it, usually I will change my mind and come to my senses.

If I had to convince myself, I would have stopped after my last Casio. It had everything I needed in a watch, and more. What do I need with more watches. Beats the hell out of me. But I keep buying them when the mood strikes and the funds are available. One thing I don't (and would never) do is go into hock for any watch. None of them is worth that.
