The only modification I might consider is slapping on a new Jubilee bracelet onto my stunning Platty!!

I am all for anyone doing what ever they want to their watch, it is theirs. I considered bushing the polished sections on my GMT IIc. I did not do it because I have ended up liking the polished look.

This is debatable, but IMO Rolex bastardized the Sub when the put that green bezel on.

Do whatever you want. One man's trash is another's treasure. Why should anyone care if someone else's Rollie isn't 'factory fresh' becuase they added 'cheap gaudy' diamonds to their watch. I wouldn't buy a Sub or 'platty' (more like 'steely' a platinum dial and bezel does not make a platinum watch) cause to me, they're boring.

Totally subjective, see why others 'basterdize' their watch as? Because they think the result is simply outstanding....
Edit:Didn't look at the dates, see its a really old thread already, my bad

If a watch is used as a tool, which some of us here do, then it's absolutely critical that the tool fulfills the requirements of the user. In the example of Rolex, say a Sub, some may prefer to dive with a rubber strap or a NATO strap. If so, then go for it. It does little permanent damage if any, and the original can be replaced as and when desired.
Other modifications such as diamonds and other 'structural' mods, then I'm not a big fan of those. |

I've wanted a Rollie since seeing my first in a National Geographic mag when i was 9 years old. Would never modify my GMT Pepsi and IIc, as i enjoyed that first magazine shot of a stock standard piece many, many years ago.
I'm the type to find a car, look at the specs, do the research, take one for a drive, purchase it, then not modify it one bit, as it goes great the way it was bought. But that's just me. However, Geez, gotta admit that Subbie with the black leather strap and red stitching looks great. |

I would not do that IMHO. That effectively would bastardize a platty. Jubilee bracelet just don't look right with sports watches. It's beautiful on my wife's mid-size datejust. However, we all have different likings and that's what makes the world interesting.

First, the watch brand is Rolex. Use the full name, please.
Most critically, no two-piece band or bracelet will effectively secure the watch if a spring bar should fail. This includes new or NOS factory Rolex bracelets. Do your own test to determine if this true or correct. It is NOT recommended to lose a spring bar in a test in deep water, you WILL lose both watch and bracelet. If you sail, dive, mountain climb or otherwise engage in very active outdoor pursuits, get a one piece NATO or ZULU band of the best quality. Your watch or significant other will thank you for sparing them from the obscene unpleasant language following the loss of a valuable Rolex. |

A 15 year old thread, I think we might have set a record here. Let’s show a little respect for one of the most beloved (late) members and let this lie.

Only changes I would consider (and have done) is put (real rolex) glidelock clasp on 93250 sub bracelets, and swapping GMT bezel colors (black, pepsi, and coke - but all are factory inserts). I'm pretty sure those "changes" aren't cheap etc. But, YMMV

I fitted aftermarket grilles all round my car so as to protect the rads front and side and hide the exhaust boxes rear. And those with an older GMT may wish to interchange all three bezel inserts. Some aftermarket straps also look good on some models, others don't, but it's all the owners choice. But I do get that most Rolex owners prefer to follow the standard look. We're mostly sheep after all. |
