I have one from Preik, very high quality, fitted it myself and since it is so easy to reverse why not.

Exactly this, I’ve done it before with a Preik simply put the original back on when selling the watch

Not a fan of it, on a Rolex, but like the see through caseback on several other watches I own.

If you like it better, do it.
The ones I’ve had from other brands are very nice and I appreciate the look, but I never found myself just looking at the movement with any regularity. If they come that way, great, if not, I personally wouldn’t modify. |

Not sure what the issue is. You'd still have the original caseback so if you want to do it, do it.

I didn’t say there was anything wrong with the movements, and totally agree they are workhorses made to last decades. I’d rather have the Toyota V6 than my twin turbo Porsche motor if I was driving across the desert and my life depended on it, but it just isn’t anything worth looking at. Sure you can see the movement is real, but a fake caseback puts it into frankenwatch territory anyway. Plenty of great watches with excellent movements and fine finishing worth looking at. Grand Seiko and Glashūtte Original are good examples.

I installed one on a Daytona and it looked great.
Rolex movements aren't "decorative" but they are still quite beautiful and nicely finished. Pay no attention to those who say they are not pleasing to look at. I promise that you'll be quite happy with the result. As for installation, unless you have the proper dies and case opener I would take it to a watchmaker who does. Yes you can do it yourself, but it's easy to slip and scratch the bejeezus out of things if you do. |

A see-through case back has never been a deciding factor or deal breaker on any watch I’ve bought. If the watch comes with one I enjoy it, if it doesn’t then I don’t miss it. It doesn’t mean enough to me to modify a Rolex.

I think for a while he disappeared off the map but I think he’s back. I’ve seen him upload a few videos on YouTube in the last few months. I ordered the case back last week and the tracking is showing movement. Last time I ordered 3 years ago, he never sent anything and I had to file a claim to get the money back. He’s the only one who sells those types of case backs so I don’t have much choice. Looks like it’s all good this time though. If I get it and decide not to install it, I’ll just sell the case back!.

I have one watch with a see through case back.
I guess I don't understand the desire. I've looked at the thing maybe once or twice and that was enough.

Yes! Were I to ever want a clear case back on my old Submariner this is exactly how I´d want to have it done! And my AD has the equipment too! I´d never try to do it myself...

I like very few mods but I would consider this one.
Whenever an uninitiated asks me why I like watches so much, the first thing I do is explain the mechanical movement. Shockingly, very few people know our watches are not actually battery operated. Usually I have to google an image of a movement but with an open case back I can just show them in person. Aesthetically, between a modern Sub, GMT or Daytona, would any one of these movements “show” better than others in anyone’s opinion? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'd be really anxious that something could let water in ... would stick with the OEM case back, personally.
