2004 16610LV, What Box?
I'm looking for a nice 5 digit LV Sub. I want to wear but it's also important to me to have a full and correct set. I've been looking at what appears to be a nice sharp 2004 F serial example but it comes with the later style box. I was under the impression that the newer style was with 2005's onwards. What would be correct for a 2004?

Depends what year it was sold. Boxes were supplied separately from the watches to ADs by Rolex.

Both of the above are correct. This was around the time boxes changed from the latter to the former above. A 2004 Sub may come in either of those box styles.

An F serial is not a 2004 watch. Rolex never made a single serial prefix for any single year.
F serials were first seen in late 2003 and continued until early 2006, and beyond for some references. This span easily covers the change in Rolex boxes, which, as mentioned, were provided to Dealers who then associated them with a watch. Some Dealers would use older boxes until they were gone, and others began using the new ones right away. "correct" when talking about accessories can be a mixed bag.

That first box isn't right. The cushion in the older style box was replaced by the c-clip around 2000. These are the transition boxes.

Here is my F04xxxx Submariner 16610LV set. It has the C clip inner box. Based on the sale date of 3/06/2004, one would consider this watch as having a manufacturer date of late 2003 as Tools mentioned.

You are correct. I realized after I posted the cushion wasn’t right and checked my Y serial LV which has a c clip that holds the watch in the box.
