Will Rolex change my Dd40 face to Diamond dial

If I take my watch to rolex will they change my dial to a Diamond dial ? I want to change from white to a black Diamond dial. Will they do this and if so want is the typical charge? Also will they let you keep you factory dial as well or do them make you leave it with them. I will add I am not original owner if that matters

You cannot keep factory dial if you swap. Last i remember diamond baguette dial is roughly $4500 installed from rolex

They charged me ~470 to swap colors on my 118206. I bet they will do it if it's a model that exists(ed). Expect to pay up because the diamond dials demand a 5 figure premium at MSRP.

I emailed the RSC in Los Angeles about something similar a few months ago, seeing if I could have the diamonds removed & replaced with sticks from the current WG DD36. The guy said no, not until the model is discontinued.

There is a 40% surcharge at Geneva HQ if you want to keep the dial.

Yes but they’ll keep the dial unless you pay extra

Rolex won’t swap the dial on anything until the 5 year warranty period has passed.

Might it be a good idea to just call the RSC and ask?

OH YEAH!? What if you send them a watch WITHOUT your dial in the first and tell them you lost it somewhere? Will they also charge you 40% on top of their dial?

Just to clarify:
I have a diamond dial for let's say 8k and I would like to change for a stick dial for 450 - so I'd have to pay the 40% premium for the stick dial, correct? Anything else would be robbery indeed haha

So after 5 years I can get a white dial for my Daytona? That would be SWEEEET.

People talk about DD and DJ dials with some frequency yet nobody ever mentions swapping Daytona dials.

Calling it a premium is sort of true; but also wrong.

A more accurate way to describe it would be you receive a discount if you surrender the old dial; and you pay full price if you don’t.

Interesting - It implies that RSC will modify dials?
I doubt that they actually will, but if so I could have them make, e.g., a never-offered vignette 18238 dial without diamonds?

That’s doubtful. Swap? yes. Modify? I think you’d need an independent watchmaker to modify an existing dial.

After the warranty has run out, you can make the request to RSC or a Rolex AD that has a watchmaker on staff to do the dial swap, as long as the dial you want was available for that specific model. I did it with my DD 36 swapping from silver dial to cherry dial. They may require the watch to have a full service on top of the swap if needed. They won’t let you keep the original dial.

That Cherry dial is something sexy!
Ive thought about picking up a used DD to have that done but not sure what ref Id need to go with. Which ref is yours?

Just did a dial swap on a YG Sky-Dweller. Outside five years is the rule. You can not have the dial and only dials that were originally offer with the model you own are available. RSC said I may need a movement service but they would have to wait until they received the watch. RSC did not require a service but I had them do one anyway. Very pleased with the results.
