Zenith Defy Classic - too similar to Datejust?

I currently have a 36mm Datejust (silver dial, fluted bezel on jubilee) and thinking of buying another watch as an addition rather than replacement.

I’ve been looking at the Montblanc Geosphere, IWC Spitfire Bronze Chrono (both pre-owned from a dealer) and a Zenith Defy Classic on leather strap which as a discontinued model I can get new heavily discounted (approx £3k compared to rrp of £5.5k).

Not looking to compare the above but interested in thoughts as to whether the Zenith is a bit similar to my Datejust and whether this would sway you.

That’s a nice watch. Pretty different from Daytona.

It was a Datejust I was comparing to rather than a Daytona, but definitely different to the Daytona!

Not overly similar, in my opinion. I do see how the DJ and the Zenith each could serve as substitutes for one another in nearly any situation, and having such a choice each day would be a pleasure. My vote is to pounce at this opportunity

I don’t think they are similar. Sounds like a great deal on the zenith.

Sadly the discount code on the Zenith doesn’t work so price is £3,850 rather than £3k. Still a good deal. Also noticed that WoS have the SS Spitfire Chrono reduced from £6,650 to £4,650 which is also very tempting!

I have this watch and it is a great watch! I think for that great discount it’s great and I also bought it new at a similar discount.

I also have a DJ and it is completely different. Firstly it’s titanium so is lighter and the dial and markers pop more. Also the case work is a bit more intricate and of course the clear case back lets you enjoy the unique industrial style movement. The date can also be changed forwards and backwards. The deployment clasp and strap are also a joy. Very comfortable on the wrist. Go for it!

I think they are quite different and even at the higher price point, still a good deal.

Thanks, good to know. My wife has really put a spanner in the works now though by suggesting the Zenith A384 chrono. 20% off at £6k on leather or £6,350 on the ladder bracelet!

May have to pick up both and try them out before deciding!

Make sure you buy the one you love, not the one with the biggest discount. This way the watch will stay with you a lot longer. Take that from people on here who have learned the hard way!

I don't think it's too similar at all. The titanium alone would set it apart.

Too similar? The only thing they have in common is that they’re wrist watches.

Get the Zenith!

Thanks all, I ordered the watch the other day, only to have the order cancelled due to lack of stock. With it now discontinued, chances of getting hold of it are likely to be slim!

Thanks all for the thoughts. Definitely useful in my thought process when it comes to other options!

You can still find these preowned market in new or good condition. I would look into the skeleton version as well it’s a lot of watch for the money

I’ll take a look at the used market but not keen on the Skeleton version - not my thing. Had a trip into town yesterday and looked at a few watches, my wife even persuaded me to put my name down on the list for a 126713GRNR, though not holding my breath!
