If it wasn't on the smallest setting, things might go easier for you, i.e. it will be easier to crimp the middle of the cap closed compared to the very end. So maybe remove a link, as I think was suggested by someone above, and then maybe everything will be shifted by a couple of holes. That alone might solve your problem.
