lovely watch but.. these were £2300 when they were new for a 2004, now they are £10,000 for a 2004.

So you can either pay double retail for a new 126710BLRO or you can pay quadruple retail for a used 16710BLRO
Your numbers are completely off. £2300 back in 2004 was approximately 4400 USD. $4400 from 2004 adjusted for inflation (official numbers) is about $7500 in 2024. You can get a nice 16710 with papers for about $12000 today, that's about 50% over original msrp. The difference is 16710 has been discontinued almost 20 years ago. Since then a lot of them have been lost, ruined, stolen, overpolished etc. While the current ceramic GMT Master II is still in production so their numbers are growing. And also to some Rolex enthusiasts the pre-ceramic model is superior.
That being said to me 16710 in very good condition and papers is worth $12000 and the current Pepsi in brand new condition is worth $10900 because it's neither rare nor vintage and this is Rolex MSRP. A used one is obviously worth less.

You explained this very well. Good job and I agree. Had a BLRO and thought it was silly for anyone to pay 20k for it. So, I sold it to someone willing to pay 20k for it haha

SS Daytona will always be the most difficult to obtain at AD, 2nd runner up SS BLRO especially on Jubilee from what I see on here.

Background to give others perspective. It was a 13 month wait since my request. I have purchased a DJ and WG Daytona from them in the last three years. Also have bought my wife a decent amount of jewelry from them, nothing crazy but a solid 10 year history of Christmas and birthday items.

I also make a point to attend their events and have got to know the staff fairly well. I think that can make a difference when it comes time to allocate. Purchase history is important but you need for them to like you too!
All true from my experience. Show some knowledge and passion will help as well.

I got my BLRO in December ‘18 when it was $9250 I believe. When it was announced in March of that year my longtime SA asked me that morning if I wanted one. I almost said no since I had just bought an 11 series BLNR 4 months before but he convinced me to commit. Each of the six SA’s there got to select two clients to put in a lottery to pick “list” number, it was said that VIPs got the first four then those from the lottery would get their’s. I was told mine was the 12th one they had received.
It has been a loyal companion although it did have to visit the RSC at two years when it started behaving erratically both losing and gaining time. It’s been fine since and it’s now out of warranty.
I’m glad I bought it, I soon knew I wouldn’t wear the BLNR much so I sold it three weeks later. Would I pay $20K for it, no. I asked my SA around Christmas if they had not had many, he implied that they had received their typical yearly allocation but it ended up mostly all delivered by summer instead of being divided up over the year. I’m sure it’s a hard ask these days.

Well that would be the end result of the only actual solutions, which are (a) demand would need to soften, or (b) Rolex would need to ramp up production of BLROs.

The problem is demand relative to supply, not the various channels.

FWIW, I agree with your sentiment. $20k for a production stainless Rolex is bonkers. Even MSRP is too high, IMO.

Because what? Physics changed? We used to know how to make them, but we forgot? Come on!
