This decision is about you not them. You have concerns, you know what you like, want and enjoy. If someone else made choices or decisions for a group to do something you are not interested in doing for whatever reason, you are not obligated to attend. Simply let them know you are feeling uneasy, you'd prefer to sit this one out and trust it will be a fantastic time for everyone who goes.

I would politely pass. Let the young bucks get it in down there and be ready to be present and helpful when they return.

Personally, I wouldn’t over think it. If a great friend is having this organized, I will inherently trust his judgment and get ready for a good time.
Of course, that’s just me. |

Seth,
Dr. Seuss had it right...... Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those that matter don't mind. |

Seth, I have an alternative view. Drive there and roll up in one of your exotics! Show ‘em who’s boss!
j/k You shouldn’t go anywhere that makes you uncomfortable.

I think if your concern is safety, then the real decision comes down to how much you trust the friend.
If you trust him, and he says he will take care of you, then I wouldn't worry about it. In many parts of the world, being in the company of the locals who know their ways around is usually the safest bet. If you don't trust him, the decision is obvious. On the other hand, if you are simply not thrilled about going to the party (not because of safety concerns), just politely decline. Time spent on things you don't enjoy is time wasted. |

I’ve never felt unsafe in Mexico… odds are the city you live in is about as unsafe these days. Would you be scared of going to Chicago?

Just from my own personal perspective, I wouldn't go. Not because of the expense, or the travel, or the potential for trouble. I wouldn't go because 1) unless something has radically changed, bachelor parties are generally a poop show, 2) usually at least one person is going to behave wildly, and 3) I don't want to be the old guy in this setting.
I also think the fact that this was scheduled in full knowledge of your reservations kinda invites you to politely decline. |

Send them post 1.
If they know you well, they may have read it already?

Don’t go, explain your feelings to host. We don’t want you kidnapped by a cartel!

As many of you figured, it was a complete non issue.
I made it more in my head than it was in real life. It wasn’t even something he had to “understand”. He just completely got it. As did his brother. Appreciate all the comments folks. Very much so.

It’s understandable if you don’t go. I personally wouldn’t. If they are good friends they will appreciate the honesty. What people don’t like are fake excuses.
We are religious, and over the years we have declined wedding invitations and birthday party invitations of good friends who scheduled their events conflicting with major religious holidays. We just give the reason without any apology. |
