Got a watch from the waiting list without a call

I was at my AD last week, just popped in to check on the watches I had on my list, since I was in the neighborhood.

Well, lo and behold they had a 124060 for me. I kinda doubt I would've gotten the call if I hadn't stopped in.

Not sure if this means things are improving, or I just got lucky, but I now have a no date Sub to go with my Polar. Which means I can sell my black Explorer II.

I don't know if others have experienced this, but I was on the list for the no date for just about a year before I got it.

Fun surprise, and now the 2nd watch I've gotten from my AD.

That is how I landed my Sub LV, I went into the store, talked a while with the owner and he offered me the watch. Doubt I would have received a phone call for it.

To me that is scary. They did not call you where you were on the "list" but drop in and they sell you one. People on waiting lists may need to just drop by their ADs more often.

Congrats but that confirms the “list” are not that adhered to. That should be terrifying for those on the list for ultra hot models.

Here, the “list” is referred to as a registry. They don’t go in order like a list would suggest. You register your name with a particular model. The AD chooses from the registry.

Exactly what my SA explained to me, when I asked, after they sold me my Wimbledon, because I happened to be in the store, when another customer turned it down.

Yeah that's exactly how the AD described it. My language of using the word list was based purely on the common vernacular used to describe waiting for watches.

Congratulations!!! But ... it definitely makes one wonder where the line between being present with your SA and being obtrusive truly lies.

That’s an odd observation. Stopping by your AD for a chat about your wish list is a normal thing to do, especially when your SA has instructed you to keep in touch. It’s a store! We are shopping. How is that remotely obtrusive?

Stopping at an AD is browsing and/or inquiring at best 98% the time in the current state

When I go “shopping”, there is product to be had, then and there

I’ve been called worse than weird!

But really obtrusive may not be the right word choice. I just mean it seems that “right time and right place” likely had an influence in this situation. Would a text or email that same day been sufficient to get that allocation? I’m largely wondering to myself, how often should I be engaging with my SA. How often is enough without being too much?

I got “the call” for a Sub last week from an AD out of state I spoke to in 2022. While great they actually did add me to a list and did call me, I declined. They were a year + too late, as I already found my Sub through an AD walk-in.

Enjoy the Sub! It’s a great watch!

I’ve thought about that. I stop in about once a month. My AD is only 30 minutes away, and a second location is about an hour away. I visit both, with an SA, at both. Each knows about the other, they’ve both said they don’t care if I choose to buy from the other. On one of those visits, I was offered my TT Wimbledon 36, just because I was in the right place, at the right time. Like the OP, it was my second watch purchase from that AD. In a few months, I expect a third. I think once a month is reasonable. It keeps you on their mind. No one should expect more than 1 or 2 watches per year. Of course, I’m talking about regular clients, not VIPs, which I am not.
