First of all rpryan55, my question was not whether it is proper to wear a Rolex with a suit but it was whether or not to wear a sports watch with a suit. Second, I am obviously not looking for an unbiased opinion since I decided to ask the question on a Rolex forum and hence I was looking for justifications not definitive statements. Furthermore, who could believe that style forums somehow provide unbiased and "objective" information about fashion. Is there such a thing?

I don't think I am rich enough to debate whether it is inappropriate to wear a Rolex with a suit.....

Regarding style forums, they do generally contain discussion and disagreement about fashion - but the rules of style (the occasions to wear a tuxedo, for instance, or the proper time to wear loafers) are fairly straight forward. So, yes, about "information" you would find style forums as objective as car forums are about, say, the working of internal combustion engines. Hope this helped.

Couldn't disagree with you more about the straightforward rules of style and the engine analogy really doesn't hold up. But that is beside the point.
I have to say, I am really getting a lot out of most of the other posts to this thread. Thanks to all! |

With suits, anything is fine these days. With a tux, I'd wear something with a black gator strap :)

That depends on a few things. If I were still working in the western regional headquarters of a major corporation, I would frown on it. However, at this point in my life (semi-retired), I wouldn't think much about it a twenty-somthing kid wore one with his suit. But, when the "kid" works himself in to a supervisor/management position . . . well . . . get a dress watch.
I will note, however, that our older tech folks in the corporation (engineers, geologists and refinery folks) would wear rugged tool watches when we made them dress up for a meeting, but hey, they're engineers for God's sake so that kind of stuff was expected. By the way, an Explorer I is a wobbler . . . might pass for dress watch . . .

Sorry you couldn't be more specific about your disagreements with my statements - had you been, I would have been able to help you understand my points. Nonetheless, glad to see we're helping out.

[QUOTE=rpryan55;1584036]Great answer. If you really want the correct answer to this, you need to go to a style forum. Asking a bunch of rolex fans if you can wear your sport rolex with a suit is like asking a group of Levi jean aficionados is it's okay to wear denim to a funeral. Good question, wrong forum.[/QU
I think proper would be a strap watch for a suit or formal event so I would agree with you but you could easily get away with a sport Rolex and look just fine in a suit in my opinion.I see a lot of guys do it and it looks cool to me but then again I am Bias to Rolex in General. I do think a steel Sub looks really cool with a Tux but is probably not proper but who cares . Me personally am saving for a Patek on a strap for work . The one thing I think about is a Daytona /GMT to flashy in this harsh economic environment with a suit at work. Not that it looks bad but Things are bad out there and we are wearing a Rolex . I mean I think everybody knows what a Rolex is . Just a thought for at work . Maybe thats why the proper etiquette was created way back .I have been trying to low key it .Maybe I am being silly |

Keith (kjb), I think you make a very important point about not wanting to be too flashy or gaudy at work during these difficult economic times. I find myself tucking my Rolex deep within my French/"Double" cuff or wearing my Omegas to work when I am seeing people all around me being laid off or loosing their jobs. Not that I have a Daytona to wear but my conscience just feels just a bit more clear wearing my Omega Speedy to work today. I'm probably going to put on my Sub and wear it around the house when I get home though. Just my two cents....

I think pretty much any Rolex, sport models (ahem, Subs and Explorers) look just fine with a suit. Never got less than a compliment from anybody that cared enough to say something...

DJ goes better with a suit IMHO - Sub looks better with a polo shirt
(waits to get flamed) =]

Sub or DJ with suit..sure. Even the SMP looks good (look at James Bond)
but I would have to draw the line at formal events... The official word is ...no watch at all , unless your date happens to be cinderella, or for some other reason you must wear a watch ...a thin case on a leather strap... |

DJ's are great with the shirts and suit. subs are alright as well. however, as much as I love my Daytona, it's does not fit as well IMHO.
