Why was this thread closed??

Why was this thread closed: http://rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=112966

The discussion was civil, constructive and on-topic. At the very most, it could have been moved to the "watchout" section.

Can't a mod at least post why they closed a topic next time?

Not sure, but we definately frown on talking about replicas.

The Watchout section has been deliberately set up so that innocent members may not get scammed into buying rubbish.

It's also there to "police" ebay scams and shut them down asap before some poor guy gets duped.

Deliberately starting up a fresh thread and discussing fakes is a big no-no here.

Then what is this entire sub-forum about? http://rolexforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21

So, if a member has a reservation about a fake watch, he can only post a thread if there is an eBay link or something similar? I really don't understand how the discussion that was going on in the aforementioned thread is any different from any other thread in the WatchOut! section. I.e http://rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=112709

Like I said, I can see if this thread was moved to the WatchOut section as that is where the discussion is appropriate.

If "Deliberately starting up a fresh thread and discussing fakes is a big no-no here", the admin team could probably remove about 75,000 posts here :)

I think that's the problem.

You started up a fake discussion under the Rolex section instead of the Watchout section where it should have been started up in the first place.

Maybe a Mod can help you better - I've done all I can.

Careful here, folks. Larry (tools) was the mod who posted a warning in that thread. Since he is the most likely mod to have closed the thread, I suggest you PM him and ask your question, Jason. I wouldn't want THIS thread to wind up behind a padlock as well.

Just to clarify - I did not start that thread, but was merely providing feedback in areas to identify where fake GMTIIc have flaws.

Anyways, it probably should have been started in the WatchOut section, but I think the more TRF members know how to identify replica watches, the better off we are. Obviously talking about where to buy them or showing them off is a different story.

I will PM Larry. I thought everyone was heeding to his advice of "Now, if this discussion degrades to a "I hate faks", or an "I hate fake wearers" thread, then we're handing out infractions and binning the thread...."

Thanks.

I didn't close the thread...but it clearly was in violation of the "no fake discussion" rule... as stated in the rules, any moderator can/will close such threads without further discussion...

What we strive to do at TRF is not show anybody how to identify a fake, but rather how to identify an authentic Rolex watch... We have an entire Reference Library with measurements, technical data, tips and full color close-ups... as well as the movements within... this is the material you need to arm yourself with....

I didn't lock the thread either but I notice that it was posted in the Rolex section.

I would have just binned it.
