I've been using a SSD-based netbook for over a year and love it.

Google Windows 7 and its TRIM features.

I have the thinkpad x301 for about 6 months now and it rocks, no fear of it getting banged to hard and thrashing the drive. Battery life seems to be greatly extended.
One issue to be aware of, talking with a few of the major companies i deal with, they (about 3 months ago) still did not have a way of recovering data from the drives IF it died, like they do for current platter disks. just something to think about.
If you travel alot and are rougher than normal on laptops then ssd is worth the cost, if not get the old standard as those prices are dropping rapidly.

I did have a small Dell netbook with the SSD drive, upgraded that and found it was still lacking in access speed, I run my machines pretty hard :-)

Have opted for a lenovo s10-2 with standard sata 320GB drive :-) excellent machine for portability, still have my macbook for big screen stuff :-)
