I am going to purchase the GMT Master II, with the black face and black rotatable bezel. Is the Oysterlock the only band available in stainless/18K gold? (A friend said otherwise, indicating that the Jubilee was an option.)

Yes, the TT jubilee is available on the GMT. It's also available in SS and YG.

Followup question: Is the Oysterlock the more common bracelet? I don't recall seeing one with a Jubilee.

It's definitely the more durable. As far as being more common I can't answer that truthfully but would imagine it to be so, purely based on the models I see in the shops.

The current Oyster bracelet is a double flip-lock. Previous jubilees had a single folding lock, which oyster bracelets also had until about 6-7 years ago.

I know the new jubilee bracelet has an integrated clasp and solid links (on the Datejust) but unsure if this would also be available on the GMT.

Welcome to TRF kromax your question has already been answered,the
oyster bracelet is far more durable that the Jubilee .

Welcome to TRF, Kromax. And let me say that your choice of watches is nothing less than supurb. Even if you can get the Jubilee, go with the Oysterlock bracelet. In addition to being the more durable and secure, it is much better suited to a sport watch. The Jubilee works much better with the DJ.

Hey, thanks for the words of wisdom. I am going with the Oysterlock, which I agree, is the best bet for a sport watch. I haven't seen a picture of the GMT with a Jubilee, but I was just curious about it. I think the Oysterlock is "truer" to the theme of the watch. Thanks again. Forum is great.

Good question, Kromax.

I know for a fact that the SS GMT-II was first introduced in 1985. At that time the model no. was 16760 (which is now 16710). The old one looks virtually identical to the current one with the exception that it used Tritium and would have the lettering T <25 at the bottom, as against SWISS MADE on the present one.

Not sure when the TT version was introduced, but I know that it came in with the TT Jubilee and the TT Oyster bracelet was also available as an option.

Hi Kromax,

To look identical a 2000 model because of the SEL (Solid End Link) Bracelet.Also if you really want to split hairs and get a case with no lug holes you would need to get a late Y series and then you are into late 2003 models.

I personally prefer lug holes and a SEL bracelet,but having said that I bought a 1996 T series that doesn't have an SEL bracelet and I am very happy.

I agree with Aaron. While the GMTII was introduced in '85, the addition of SEL was a quantum leap forward in bracelet design and a single defining factor in aging a Rolex, IMO.
