A new member of my little gang!

OK, the FedEx lady arrived at 2pm with a package for me today... what a surprise, I never would have guessed!

.
.
So, what's in it? Oh, just another box....

.
.
Well, here was my first surpise, a box of cookies was included! Now that's a thoughtful seller, the Loebl's are a class act.

.
.
So, here's a standard issue Rolex service box, great, my collection grows. I should give these things away as Christmas presents... empty, of course! LOLOL

.
.
Well well, now we're looking at something more interesting, that might just be a nice Rolex watch...

.
.
And the final answer is: A *mint* Rolex 5513 Submariner, from late 1979!

Let me describe this watch a little bit: It completly exceeds my expectations in every respect. I was thinking it would be nice, David Loebl and the previous owner both described it to me as being in excellent condition, but I honestly wasn't ready for this. The dial is *flawless* with nearly perfectly white markers. I even louped it (never a good idea) and just can't find a single issue. Bracelet is in great shape with what look like brand new end-links on it, no rattle, perfectly shaped, just great. The case looks like it just came from the Rolex factory, it has the edges on it and everything. If this one has been polished since the first time, the person who did it deserves a job at Rolex, it's that good.

The domed crystal looks brand new, barely a scratch on it. The hour and minute hands are NOS tritium, a little whiter than the dial, but it's accentuated in the pics in reality it's almost un-noticeable from more than a few inches away. All three hands are completely perfect, not a single pit or spot of corrosion.

This watch is honestly in exceptional shape, it looks like it might have just walked out of a dealership a few hours ago.

I know that to many this isn't anything special, just another 5513 and not even a more desireable "early" one at that. But to me, this watch is special: It ends a streak of less-than-exciting vintage purchases for me, but more significantly; it's as close as I can reasonably get to owning my real dream watch, a 5513 mil sub. I couldn't be happier with this watch, it's much more than I had dared to hope for.

My new 5513 resting in it's now natural habitat:

Thanks guys, as always having a gang to share my joy with makes it all the more worth doing!

I honestly know how long you have been searching for "the perfect" 5513 and to me you have found it. I looked at the pics again and am even more impressed at how good that baby is. You did really well mate and found a true gem.

Thats the best 5513 I have seen for a very long time, was going to say
the hands have been changed.Only going up in value now,and getting
difficult to find in a all original state now.

Wonderful presentation, Micah. You made the Sub look and sound like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Glad you found your (almost) dream watch. Wear it well and enjoy it.

Once again, thanks you guys for all your kind words. I took the watch to a local guy I'm starting to trust, he popped the caseback and said it had been serviced in October of '02 and that the movement looked practically brand new to him! I honestly think this watch has been in a closet, or a safe or something for the past 25 years. Really it's too bad, because now that I've got my hands on it it'll finally get some serious wrist time.
